Welcome to the New York City Marathon. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the New York City Marathon mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The New York City Marathon is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
New York City Marathon Now the largest marathon in the world with over 34,000 runners, only London ranks alongside the New York City Marathon in terms of road race prestige. The course starts at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. A military base for almost 200 years, athletes now wait to start among the giant fortifications built during the Civil War era. The course takes runners over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the longest single-span suspension bridge in North America, and passes through all of New York City's five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan, before finishing at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
The race sprang from humble beginnings in 1970, when only 55 runners finished and the route was simply four times around Central Park.…...more!
